Introducing Countly Flex: A Conversation with Onur, CEO of Countly

Hi, Barb here. We recently sat down with Onur, CEO of Countly, to talk about Countly Flex, the latest addition to our product lineup. Flex is Countly’s first self-service product, built for privacy from the ground up. Here's what Onur had to say. PS. If you want a quick TLDR: We’re super excited about Flex and believe it’s exactly what’s been missing in the market!

B: Onur, what was the initial idea behind creating Countly Flex?

Onur: We’ve always had Countly Lite for individuals and Countly Enterprise for larger companies with more complex needs. But over time, we started noticing a gap. There were a lot of businesses in between — they needed more than just basic analytics but didn’t want to jump into full enterprise-level solutions. We saw an opportunity to create something that would work for growing teams without overwhelming them, something scalable but also simple to start with.

So, Countly Flex was born. It’s about giving businesses a flexible tool to scale with them, without compromising on their ability to control and protect their data.

B: What sets Countly Flex apart from other analytics tools?

Onur: That’s the key point. A lot of analytics tools come with rigid pricing plans or third-party data storage, which just doesn’t make sense in today’s privacy-first world. With Countly Flex, we give businesses full control over their data. You get to host Countly on a dedicated private server and decide where that server is located. We believe data privacy should be a given, not an afterthought.

On top of that, Flex is designed to let you start small and scale up as needed. You don’t have to commit to a big package upfront. Get what you need now and add more as your business grows.

B: For those who don’t know yet, why does privacy matter so much in product analytics

Onur: When you work with product analytics, you’re dealing with your users’ trust. Their data is valuable, and your top priority as a company should be to protect it. That’s a responsibility we take very seriously at Countly.

The current norm in product analytics often requires businesses to connect multiple tools to achieve their goals — tools for user behavior, tools for feedback, tools for notifications. But with every new tool you introduce, you’re creating new risks. Each tool adds another layer where data can be mishandled, and it becomes harder to stay in control. It’s like breaking an unwritten agreement of trust with your users.

At Countly, we think that model needs to change. Everything you need to manage your product — whether it’s understanding user behavior, collecting feedback, or communicating with your audience — should exist within a single platform. That’s the vision behind Countly. By keeping all your data and actions in one place, you’re not just simplifying workflows — you’re maintaining control, building trust, and protecting privacy.

With Flex, we’re making this approach accessible to everyone. It’s the easiest way to experience what Countly offers as a complete platform. You don’t need to compromise on privacy or control anymore — you can own this, from day one.

B: So if I’m a small business just getting started, what’s in it for me? What can I do with Flex from day one?

Onur: From the start, even in the free version, you’ve got access to fourteen powerful features. For example, you can segment users based on behavior to see how different groups interact with your product, set up custom dashboards focused on the metrics that matter most to you, or track how users move through your product with funnels.

B: That’s great for getting started, but what happens if I need more advanced tools down the road?

Onur: As your business grows, Flex grows with you. We designed it to be modular, so you can add more features as needed without having to move to a whole new system. For example, you can add crash analytics, A/B testing, push notifications, and more. And the best part? You won’t pay for any of these features until you actually need them.

B: Since businesses can scale with Flex, how does the pricing work?

Onur: We wanted to make the pricing as simple and transparent as possible. Countly Flex is free for up to 1,000 monthly active users (MAUs), so smaller businesses can get started without worrying about costs. And as your business grows, the pricing scales with your needs — you only pay based on how many active users you have. It’s designed to let you grow at your own pace, without the stress of suddenly being locked into a big package.

B: Looking ahead, where do you see Countly Flex going?

Onur: Well, the launch of Countly Flex is just the first step. We’re really excited to keep adding new features based on feedback from our users. The goal is to keep Flex adaptable, so it can support businesses at any stage — whether you’re in early growth mode or you’re already an established player.

We’re also exploring AI and machine learning, which will take data analysis to the next level. But it all comes back to the same core idea — giving businesses the tools they need while letting them control and protect their data.

We are super happy Countly Flex is out. If you're reading this on November 26th, head over to Product Hunt for an exclusive launch discount and give Flex a try!

Barb
